The
second Virtual Motorsports Special Event has arrived and takes its
inspiration from the freshly completed UEFA European Championship 2012
tournament, more commonly known as Euro 2012, where drivers will be
taking part in group stages and 1 on 1 knockout matches as they bid to
make their way to the final to be crowned as Virtual Motorsports
Knockout Tournament 2012 winner. Using a variety of random cars at
equally random P.I.'s, drivers will test their skills at both creating
the best car they can, but also how well they can cope under the
pressure of performing. With success never a given, this could truly be
an unforgettable event.
Racing on Sundays at 13:00 CST / 19:00
GMT / 10:00 AEST, the event will begin at Silverstone International for
Qualifying where drivers will have 30 minutes to produce the best lap
time they can. Whilst Qualifying will be used to produce the ranking
list that will form the Group Stages, it isn't mandatory to compete as
any driver that fails to qualify will simply be ranked below all
qualified drivers. From here though, the schedule is unknown as the
circuits will be randomised in order to maintain an element of surprise
for all involved.
For
this event, each driver will enter as a lone entry with their sole
objective of advancing as far as they can within the tournament. Through
the Group Stages, being able to achieve enough points to progress will
be number one priority with drivers having to maximise the qualifying
car that will be used into this first phase. From here however, the ante
is upped as a new car and track are used for each stage that requires
the driver to not only create the fastest car possible, but also produce
performances that can better their rival.
Working alongside Turn
10, the event is officially sponsored and will feature in-game credits
and gift cars to be won by the drivers. Those skilled, or lucky enough
to finish in the top 10 of the Knockout Tournament will earn themselves a
share of the credits available, with the overall winner gaining a
unicorn car of their choice. In addition, for all drivers that complete
the group stages with 100% attendance (attending 4 out of 4 races), a
random draw will take place to determine who receives another unicorn
car.
This event will begin on the 15th July with the first of the
races within the Group Stages taking place on the 22nd July. Over the
course of up to 9 weeks, drivers will experience a multitude of
challenges including racing against both a group of drivers at once, and
the pressures of one on one action, all in cars that frequently change
that test a driver's ability to build the fastest car possible. The
requirements to do well will see the cream rise to the top.
