OH, it is the usual protests that people don't want their government to cut back on all the excess spending. The same as it is in Greece and other countries that try to get people to work more and not get more freebies from the goverment. The US will be doing the same if benefits are cut here.

| Yes Tom's right. As Brit myself, I follow what is happening back home and there were strikes all over the country by the teachers and other public sector workers. The Govt is changing there pension plans. |

| Guys, we have already seen stuff here in the US! The teachers union was all up in arms because the Wisconsin governor wanted to have the teachers pay "a little more" for their retirement and health benefits. Not that anything was cut in those areas--just legislating that the people had to pay "a little more." When compared to private sector, teachers still pay less even with this situation. And, best of all (I think), the teachers were able to keep their jobs! Yet, they still had to protest and put on all sorts of dog-and-pony shows. Had the governor not done what he did, many of the teachers would have lost their job. So, I suppose from the teachers standpoint it would have been better to keep things as they were and have some lose their job than to "pay a little more" so EVERYONE could keep their job. This is just stupid!! I am happy for Governor Walker and what he did. I am also guessing that the teachers are happy if they only sit down and think of what "could have happened" had he not. Entitlements are going to be the death of the US. I do not believe anyone should be left behind. However, that person should have a deadline to receive assistance by getting a job. McDonalds is a good place to start! People need to be encouraged to make something of themselves instead of relying on others. Who is to say that one of these people on the public dole, if they would be encouraged to do something with their life, that they wouldn't be the one to find a cure for some terrible disease. Quit giving people a fish. Instead, help them get a fishing pole and learn how to fish for themselves. Sorry...getting off my soap box now. |
